A data analytics professional with 13 years at Bank of America, currently working as the Data Platform Enablement Lead for the Global Markets Operations Data Strategy Team. I serve as a bridge between tech and ops, often either translating ops’ requirements into something tech better understands or helping ops become less reliant on tech by introducing them to a new suite of tools that our team owns and operates for the GMO space (Python, VS Code, GitHub Copilot, Git, and others).
Skills
- Programming and data: Python (Pandas, NumPy, Jupyter, Flask), SQL (SQL Server, Teradata), VBA, HTML; working experience with JavaScript, React and C++
- BI and reporting: Tableau, Excel, Access
- Platforms and tooling: SQLPlex, Jira, Confluence, VS Code, GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot
- Practices: translating business needs into data requirements, process automation, QA before production, documentation, training and data literacy, knowledge shares, problem solving
- Side projects (tfox.me): build web apps with Python, Flask APIs, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Chart.js and Leaflet.js, deployed on Heroku with Git/GitHub and developed with Claude Code and other AI tools. Examples: a Fantasy Premier League tracking platform with Discord live-score alerts, a baseball season simulator, a Pokémon battle simulator and a World Cup sticker-collection tracker that use Claude AI, a kids’ spelling practice app, and Balk, an iPhone and iPad journal app. Also: Power Query, a home lab on Raspberry Pi and Linux (SSH/TwinGate, DNS management), Home Assistant, MLB Statcast data, and Lightroom and Photoshop for photography
Experience
Bank of America, Chicago, IL (July 2013 – Present)
Data Platform Enablement Lead
- Central support: one of the main contacts for tactical support across GMO data users; triage issues and fix them directly or route them to the right BIDS, technology or partner team, and hold office hours to unblock teams.
- Onboarding and training: onboard and train federated developers, keep onboarding playbooks and training content current, and plan and lead large data centralization projects, tracked in Jira, where other associates do the development work.
- Additional programs: GMO AI Innovator, MODE Extended Leadership team (Process Excellence Pods and office hours), Reporting, Analytics and AI Network leadership team, H10, and recently asked to join the mentorship program
Senior Client Reporting Analyst
- Data SME and translator: serve as the team’s subject-matter expert between technology and operations, maintaining the Cesium and RD Hub data sources, posting regular updates on them and joining the data leads calls.
- Faster data imports: took over the monthly ATCS process and cut the import from about 23 hours to under 2 by writing Python imports that run locally.
- Loan Runner and loans dashboard: built the complex line-of-business logic for the year’s biggest data import, then a dashboard combining Loan Runner and Clearpar sources to clean up the business’s process.
- Import tool: worked with a developer on an import tool, working through difficult discussions about missing features by speaking developer language, and built a backup tactical version.
- Point 72: learned the existing process from its owner and built a replacement on Teradata.
- Invoice PDF project: parsed 108 PDFs for the OTC reporting team’s audit inquiries after Copilot failed, using a handful of tools to deliver the data in a usable format (silver award).
- ETD cleanup: pulled back by my former team to resolve a months-long technical issue; with no prior knowledge of the process, used tools I had access to to simplify their data mining (platinum award).
- AI and developer tooling: team rep for GMO’s Copilot rollout; leading the team’s adoption of VS Code, GitHub Copilot and Python, including the access request for all team members and live demos; building a QA tool that uses markdown files to drive Copilot prompts and automate QA before code goes to production.
- Quality and delivery: ran my first QA process to move Loan Runner code to production and am applying the lessons to speed up the next one; moved the team’s work into Jira and Confluence.
- Training and advisory: presented an introduction to Tableau at the GMO reporting and analytics day; advised the OCRM team on making client scorecard feedback trackable and the OTC reporting team on setting up Teradata imports; took part in data lake, three-database migration and SQLPlex tenant sessions.
Vice President, Collateral Initiatives
- Workflow: built a workflow system for the Port Rec and Disputes teams when a technology solution was about 18 months from prioritization. It prioritized work for analysts, summarized it for managers, aggregated data over time and enabled email-based collaboration across regions. Management later expanded the ask to new versions for more LOBs and processes (cross-product breaks, FI Port Rec, onboarding).
- Performance metrics: used the Workflow data to measure the impact an analyst has when covering a client and to support recognizing analysts who drive improvements.
- Client Profile: developed a way to quantify client behavior for the manager of the global OTC collateral teams, starting with how a client compares with peers on failed and disputed calls.
- Margin system design: joined the team as SME for the cash process to give input on the design of the new margin system (Mercury), then moved into analytics: measuring capacity, quantifying the impact of system releases, data mining contact information for client outreach, and organizing sources to migrate clients to Mercury in the right order.
Collateral Cash Management
- Served as the Cash Team’s subject-matter expert and the escalation contact for global collateral teams on break resolution and daily processing, working with colleagues in London and Hyderabad on training, coverage and risk management.
- Built the “Cash Sheet”, an Excel and Access tool that about 80 OTC collateral team members across Chicago, London and Hyderabad used to check the day’s activity and catch mistakes before they became breaks.
